Description of key information

Magnesium methanolate hydrolysis within minutes into methanol and magnesium hydroxide. Both hydrolysis products are natural occuring substances.

The hydrolysis product methanol is readily biodegradable under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions in a wide variety of environmental media including fresh and salt water, sediments and soils, ground water, aquifer material and industrial wastewater. The hydrolysis product magnesium hydroxide is an inorganic substance and as such biodegradation is not relevant.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable
