PBT status:

Justification:

A ready biodegradability study according to OECD Guideline 301D (Ready Biodegradability: Closed Bottle Test) is available for Betadet SHR which showed 94% degradation after 28 days and concluded that the substance can be considered readily biodegradable. As such, based on the screening criteria, the substance is not considered to be persistent (P or vP).

 

Partition coefficient values have been calculated using KOWWIN (v1.68 estimate within the in EPI Suite software). The components calculated had Log Kow values from -7.24 to -0.37. The main constituent, the propanaminium C12 species, had a calculated Log Kow value of -2.34. Therefore, based on the screening criteria the substance is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B or vB).

 

A long-term 21 day Daphnia magna reproduction study and (marine) algal toxicity study are available, the results of which were a 21 d NOEC value of 1.05 mg/L and a 72 h NOEC value of 0.76 mg/L, respectively. Given that the resulting NOEC values from both studies are >0.01 mg/L, the substance is not considered to be toxic (T) based on long-term aquatic toxicity.
