Reference
Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
November 16, 2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: CIPAC MT 59
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: Testing was performed according to the Collaborative International Pesticides Analytical Council Handbook, MT 59, Sieve Analysis. Wet sieve analysis consists of quantitative separation of a solid mixture into fractions with different ranges of particle size using appropriate seives, incorporating water as the principle aid to move particulate matter through the sieve array.
- Short description of test conditions: The test substance was mixed with water to create a suspension, and this suspension was rinsed over a set of 10 sieves, with the sieve with the largest mesh size on top, and progressively smaller mesh sizes beneath it.
- Parameters analysed / observed: Amount of substance that accumulated on each sieve.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
sieving
Type of particle tested:
other: Suspension containing particles
Type of distribution:
mass based distribution

No sieve clogging was observed. The mean weight recovery was 104%.

Conclusions:
Over 90% of the substance had a particle diameter of > 5.6 mm, with 100% having a particle diameter of greater than 1.0 mm. Negligible amount of the material had a size less then 20 microns.
Executive summary:

The particle size of the test substance was determined using a "wet sieve" analysis. The particle size of three samples was determined. Over 90% of the substance had a particle diameter of > 5.6 mm, with 100% having a particle diameter of greater than 1.0 mm.  Negligible amount of the material had a size less then 20 microns.
