- Conclusions:
- The test substance does not evolve flammable gases on contact with water. In accordance with the criteria of UN Test N.5, the test substance is not classified as a substance which, in contact with water, emits flammable gases.
- Executive summary:
The pyrophoric properties of the substance were studied under GLP in accordance with UN Test N.5, “Test Method for Substances Which in Contact with Water Emit Flammable Gases”, Reference 5.2. The experiment is considered relevant, adequate and conclusive. The test substance did not evolve flammable gases on contact with water in steps 1, 2 and 4 of the study (step 3 was skipped as this is not applicable to liquids). Based on the results, the test substance is not classified as a substance which, in contact with water, emits flammable gases.

No significant quantities of gas were evolved on contact with water over a period of 7 hours in each of the three tests.
Description of key information
The test substance does not evolve flammable gases on contact with water. In accordance with the criteria of UN Test N.5, the test substance is not classified as a substance which, in contact with water, emits flammable gases.
The test substance does not spontaneously ignite on contact with air or ignite or char filter paper at ambient temperatures. In accordance with the criteria of UN Test N.3, the test substance is not classified as a pyrophoric liquid.

Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The substance is a liquid at room temperature, and the classification of the flammability is based mainly on the flash point. A flash was detected by a thermocouple suspended in the vapour space in two experiments and the flash point of the substance was found to be 45 ± 2 °C at atmospheric pressure and the substance is categorised as flammable liquid, Cat. 3, according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
Furthermore, relevant and conclusive studies according to UN Tests N.5 and N.3 were carried out. In accordance with the criteria of UN Test N.5, the test substance is not classified as a substance which, in contact with water, emits flammable gases. In accordance with the criteria of UN Test N.3, the test substance is not classified as a pyrophoric liquid.
