Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Justification for type of information:
Own observation of physical state, colour and odour.
Cross-reference
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
other: reference to melting point study
Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2018-01-16 to 2018-01-24
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= -19.1 - <= 14.89 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Melting (Freezing) Range

Table of results (Screening Test):

Onset temp. (°C) Heat of melting (J.g-1)
First Endotherm -19.44 96.866
Second Endotherm 38.85 102.56
Third Endotherm 84.15 23.113
Fourth Endotherm 104.14 153.27

On completion of testing a tiny drop of colourless sample remained at the bottom of the pan.

The endotherm observed with an onset of -19.44 was considered to be due to melting. Therefore formal analysis was conducted between -50 to 150°C at 1 K.min-1.

Table of results:

  Run 1 Run 2 Run 3 Run 4
Endotherm onset temp. (°C) -19.10 -18.82 -18.66 -18.03
Mass of Sample Used (g) 5.04 3.19 4.72 4.70

Due to the broadness and multi-peak nature of the endotherm and the multi-component nature of the sample the melting/ freezing temperature has been reported as a range.

Conclusions:
Melting range of the test substance is -19.10 to 14.89°C.
Executive summary:

Melting (Freezing) Range: -19.10 to 14.89°C.
