Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of magnesium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities soluble magnesium substances and neodecanoic acid is applied since the ions of magnesium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Magnesium is an essential macronutrient for algae and cyanobacteria and as central element in chlorophyll essential for the process of photosynthesis, therefore being part of all aquatic algae test media (OECD TG 201, 2006) and of very low potential of toxicity. The acute toxicity of neodecanoic acid as inhibition of growth of R. subcapitata was evaluated in freshwater, yielding a 72-h EL50 of >100 mg/L. Thus, magnesium neodecanoate has a low potential for toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria.
