Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for AES (C12-14, 1-2.5 EO) TEA (CAS 157627-94-6) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2014).

Persistence

All members of the category alkyl ether sulfates are readily biodegradable which is proved by many studies available for the certain mixtures. Due to the ready biodegradability of alkyl ether sulfates it is unlikely that the substances persist in the environment. Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation

Due to the low log Kow value bioaccumulation is not expected. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity

No long-term effects below the trigger value of 0.01 mg/L (EC10 or NOEC) occurred. Moreover, the substance is not classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (7th ATP) as carcinogen, germ cell mutagenic or toxic for reproduction. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
