For the aquatic toxicity of Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxotetradecyl)aminoacetate (CAS 30364-51-3) reliable ecotoxicological data are available for the short-term toxicity to fish and aquatic invertebrates and for the toxicity to aquatic algae. There is no data available for the toxicity of Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxotetradecyl)aminoacetate (CAS 30364-51-3) to microorganisms. Therefore, read-across to the structurally related source substances Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6) and N-methyl-N-(C18-(unsaturated)alkanoyl)glycine (EC 701-177-3) was conducted for this endpoint in order to fulfil the standard information requirements for Annex XI, 1.5, under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Based on the high degree of structural similarity and comparable physico-chemical properties of the target and source substances, the source substances are considered suitable representatives for the assessment of the toxicity of the target substance to microorganisms. A detailed analogue approach justification is provided in the technical dossier (see IUCLID Section 13).

For the short-term toxicity of Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxotetradecyl)aminoacetate (CAS 30364-51-3) to fish a GLP-study according to OECD 236 is available with a reported LC50 (96 h) of 4.256 mg a.i./L (meas. geom. mean).

The short-term toxicity of Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxotetradecyl)aminoacetate (CAS 30364-51-3) to aquatic invertebrates was assessed in a GLP-study according to OECD 202. The lowest reported effect concentration is an EC50 (48 h) of 2.9 mg/L (arith. mean measured).

The toxicity of Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxotetradecyl)aminoacetate (CAS 30364-51-3) to aquatic algae was tested in a GLP-study according to OECD 201, resulting in an ErC50 (72 h) of 13.47 mg/L (nominal) and a ErC10 (72 h) of 4.448 mg/L (nominal).

The toxicity to microorganisms was assessed in three studies according to OECD 209 for the source substances Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6) and N-methyl-N-(C18-(unsaturated)alkanoyl)glycine (EC 701-177-3) with activated sludge as inoculum. Effects on the respiration of activated sludge microorganisms were recorded, resulting in an EC50 (3 h) of > 100 mg/L and a NOEC (3 h) of 10 mg/L (nominal).

Based on the structural similarity and comparable physico-chemical properties between the target and source substances, the target substance is expected to exhibit a similar ecotoxicological profile as the source substances. All the reliable data compiled in the data matrix of the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13 supports the read-across approach by showing a consistent pattern of results.
