Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The toxic potential of the substance is evaluated by considering data on Similar substance 01, 05 and 06. Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.

The toxic potential of Similar Substance 05 and Similar Substance 06 to aquatic algae was evaluated according to the OECD Guideline 201. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to Similar Substance 05 at 0, 4, 9, 21, 45, and 100 mg/l (nominal) and to Similar Substance 06 at 0.3, 1, 3.1, 9.8, 31.3, and 100 mg/l for 72 hours. The concentration of the test substances was analyzed using ICP at the beginning (0 hour) and the end (72 hours) of the test. Analytical results indicated that the test substance was sparsely soluble in water. Morphological changes of algal cells were observed including expansion, aggregation, atrophy, and decoloration at 72 hours after exposure.

Based on average specific growth rate and yield:

EC50 (72hr) > 100 mg/l (nominal) - Similar Substance 05 and Similar Substance 06

EC50 (72hr) > 4.4 mg/l (measured) - Similar Substance 06

EC50 (72hr) > 1.56 mg/l (measured) - Similar Substance 05

Data on Similar Substance 01 obtained in a secondary source (Slooff et al 1989) also support the aquatic toxicity evaluation of the substance. In single-species tests with the readily soluble Similar Substance 01, the 48 to 96 -h L(E)C50 for algae, crustaceans and fish ranged from 43 to 460 mg F/l. During the chronic studies with Similar Substance 01 in the test water the NOEC values for algae, protozoa, rotifera, crustaceans and amphibians varried between 3.7 and 370 mg F/l. NOEC values for marine algae are reported as 50 -200 mg/l.

The substance is poorly soluble in water rendering its bioavailability lower and thus an exposure of the aquatic algae is not expected.

Considering the available data on the similar substances, the target substance is expected to have an EC50 > 100 mg/l (nominal) or above the limit of solubility.
