Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

During the commission of a guideline study under GLP conditions to determine water solubility of the test substance, an additional “extra” vial was prepared for infusion high resolution mass spectrometry analysis and infusion/MS/MS to confirm the presence of 2,2-dihydroxytrifluoropropionic acid, the reaction product of the test substance and water. The pH of the water sample was also measured using indicator strips and was approximately 2.5 suggesting the presence of HF. The confirmatory analyses demonstrated that the test substance solubilised in water undergoes significant hydrolysis under the test conditions to form 2,2-dihydroxytrifluoropropionic acid and HF.

Under the conditions of a water solubility study, the hydrolysis half-life calculated from the headspace data of HFPO was 58 hours at ambient temperature. This value is a combined half-life for dissolution of HFPO from the gas phase into the aqueous phase and hydrolysis of the dissolved gas.
