Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Potassium isoamyl xanthate (PIAX) is classified as Aquatic Chronic Cat 2 (H411) based on valid acute toxicity data on three trophic levels of organisms and based on the inherent biodegradation. The following key values were obtained for CSA. The lowest acute toxicity value was obtained on daphnids. Data on short-term toxicity The 48 -h EC50 (immobilisation) to Daphnia magna is 3.67 mg/L based on nominal concentrations under static conditions (OECD 202, GLP). The 72-h EC50 (growth rate) to Desmodesmus subspicatus is 10.51 mg/L based on nominal concentrations under static conditions (OECD 201, GLP). The 96 -hour LC50 (mortality) to Salmo salar is 10 - 100 mg/L based on nominal concentrations in a semi-static system with a read-across substance potassium isobutyl xanthate (PIBX). Supporting data obtained with the minor constituent of the target substance, potassium amyl xanthate (PAX), are consistently within the same range (10 - 100 mg/L). Data on long-term toxicity There is no data available for the target substance (PIAX) but for the analogue substance (PAX), which is also the minor constituent of the target substance (PIAX). 28-d NOEC (reproduction) of 0.79 mg/L to fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss) supports the proposed Aquatic Chronic Category 2 classification.
