One key study is available for each of the following endpoints:

- Short-term toxicity to fish:

LC50 (96h) > 100 mg/L; LOEC (96h) > 100 mg/L; NOEC (96h) = 100 mg/L (OECD guideline 203) (klimisch 1)

- Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/L; EC0 (48h) = 100 mg/L (OECD guideline 202) (klimisch 1)

- Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

EC10, EC20 and EC50 (72h) for growth rate and yield >100 mg/L (OECD Guideline) (klimisch 1)

LOEC (72h) for growth rate and yield >100 mg/L (OECD Guideline 201) (klimisch 1)

NOEC (72h) for growth rate and yield = 100 mg/L (OECD Guideline 201) (klimisch 1)

- Toxicity to microorganisms:

EC50 (3h) > 1000 mg/L; EC10 (3h) = 1000 mg/L (OECD guideline 209) (klimisch 1)

Based on the results of these studies, sodium phosphinate and by read-across potassium phosphinate do not show any adverse effect on aquatic life at least up to 100 mg/L concentration (1000 mg/L for microorganisms).
