Description of key information

Octopirox was tested for skin and eye irritation in rabbits using both, technical pure material as well as diluted material using test-concentrations reflecting practical use conditions. The dermal irritative potential of Octopirox preparations was additionally investigated in human volunteers. Based on the available study results from the animal experiments, pure Octopirox must be regarded as an irritant to skin in animals. However, in concentrations representing practical use conditions, Octopirox exhibits a good skin tolerance in animals as well as in human volunteers. Pure Octopirox is severely irritating to eyes, but exhibits a good eye mucous membran tolerability as well when tested at concentrations reflecting practical use conditions.

Additional information

Testing of Octopirox for skin and eye irritating properties have revealed that pure Octopirox is a skin and eye irritant. However, when tested at concentrations reflecting practical use conditions, Octopirox exhibited a good skin tolerance without significant irritating potential in animals as well as in human volunteers and a good eye mucous membran tolerability in animals.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: irritating

Effects on eye irritation: highly irritating

Effect level: empty Endpoint conclusion: Adverse effect observed

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available test results, pure Octopirox, this substance has to be classified as irritating to skin and eye.
