Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Hydrolysis

The substance 2-ethylhexyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate is highly insoluble in water as shown in the test on water solubility (result <1 µg/l). Thus, conducting the study for hydrolysis depending on pH is technically not feasible and is waived in line with the criteria in Annex VIII, column 2 REACH. Hydrolysis is therefore not expected to be a relevant elimination pathway in the environment.

Biodegradation

The test item 2-ethylhexyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate was found to be biodegradable (59% biodegradation) under the test conditions within 28 days. However, the pass level for ready biodegradability, i.e. biodegradation of at least 60% of the ThOD in a 10-day window within the 28-day period of the test, was not reached. According to the test guidelines, the test item had no inhibitory effect on activated sludge microorganisms at the tested concentration of 100 mg/L. Hence, the substance is considered inherently biodegradable.

Adsorption/desorption

The substance is considered inherently biodegradable and rapid bioelimination is expected. In addition, the substance is highly insoluble in water as shown in the test on water solubility (result <1 µg/l). Thus, conducting the study for adsorption/desorption is technically not feasible and is waived in line with the criteria in Annex VIII, column 2 REACH. Given the log Pow of 7.14 - 7.19 adsorption to organic matter in the environment is expected to be significant.

As conducting an adsorption/desorption study is technically not feasible surrogate data for Koc and Log Koc have been estimated by a validated QSAR model (KOCWIN 2.00) and were found being 7585 (Koc) and 3.88 (log Koc) based on the MCI method, respectively.
