Preliminary Visual Estimation of the Water Solubility
Appearance of the test mixtures in the preliminary test
Amount of the test item in mg | Total volume in ml | Appearance of mixture |
100
| 0.1 | Undissolved |
0.5 | Dissolved |
The preliminary visual experiments showed that the water solubility of the test item is >200 g/l and <1000 g/l . Therefore the water solubility had to bo determined by the “flask method”. Due to the high water solubility it was tested which amount of the test substance could be stirred in a defined volume of water.
Appearance of the test mixtures in the stirring test
volume of waterin ml | mass of the added test item in g | total mass of the test item in g | Appearance of mixture

2 | 1.0 | 1.0 | solution is stirrable |
2 | +0.5 | 1.5 | solution is stirrable |
2 | +0.5 | 2.0 | could not be stirred |
2.5 | --- | 2.0 | solution is stirrable |
Due to this stirring experiment the main test could be performed with 2.0 g in 5 ml water (400 g/l) This solution was stirred at 20 °C for 22 hours. After this time a dark coloured pasty solution was observed. No precipitate was observed. The stirring test showed that 400 g/l test item can be used for flask method.
