Description of key information

Melting point K3EDTA: 252°C (decomposition)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
252 °C

Additional information

Based on read-across from related substance disodium dihydrogen ethylenediaminetetraacetate a melting point value of 252°C was sourced from authoritative handbooks which considered reliable and therefore assigned as key study; melting point values of 240°C and 245°C are obtained from a authoritative database and from a handbook and, therefore, support the key study. In all cases the test substance is decomposed at or below melting temperature. One melting point is reported for the potassium salt dihydrate, but was not used due to reliability concerns.

Due to the similar EDTA-anion of the potassium and sodium salts and under the assumption of the decomposition of the organic anion (and not the inorganic cation) at melting temperature, a read-across is scientifically justified.
