Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation:

Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Rinse nose and mouth with water. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.

Ingestion:

Immediately rinse mouth and drink plenty of water. Keep person under observation. If person becomes uncomfortable seek hospital and bring these instructions. Never make an unconscious person vomit or drink fluids!

Skin contact:

Remove affected person from source of contamination. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash the skin immediately with soap and water.

Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing.

Eye contact:

Remove victim immediately from source of exposure. Make sure to remove any contact lenses from the eyes before rinsing. Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting the eye lids. Get medical attention immediately. Continue to rinse.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Extinguish with foam, carbon dioxide or dry powder. Do not use water as an extinguisher.

Special fire fighting procedures:

Use water spray only to cool containers! Do not put water on leaked material. Keep run-off water out of sewers and water sources. Dike for water control.

Unusual fire and explosion hazards:

Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable).

Secific hazards:

In case of fire, toxic gases may be formed (COx, NOx).

Protective measures in fire:

Use air-supplied respirator during fire fighting.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Wear protective clothing as described in the section "exposure controls/personal protection". Eye contact MUST be prevented by means of suitable personal protection equipment.

Environmental precautions:

Do not allow to enter drains, sewers or watercourses. Spillages or uncontrolled discharges into watercourses must be immediately alerted to the Environmental Agency or other appropriate regulatory body.

Spill clean up methods:

Stop leak if possible without risk. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Flush with plenty of water to clean spillage area. Do not contaminate water sources or sewer. Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable).

Extinguish all ignition sources. Avoid sparks, flames, heat and smoking. Ventilate. Containers with collected spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol.

Handling and storage

Usage precautions:

Avoid inhalation of vapours/spray and contact with skin and eyes. Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable).

Risk of vapour concentration on the floor and in low-lying areas. Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame.

Storage precautions:

Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Open only when ready for use and reseal part used containers after use. Keep in original container. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame.

Storage class:

Chemical storage.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Ingredient comments:

WEL = Workplace Exposure Limits: None established for this material.

Protective equipment:

Gloves, goggles.

Process condirions:

Provide eyewash station.

Engineering measures:

Provide adequate ventilation. Observe Occupational Exposure Limits and minimise the risk of inhalation of vapours.

Respiratory equipment:

In case of inadequate ventilation use suitable respirator.

Hand protection:

Use protective gloves made of: Neoprene, nitrile, polyethylene or PVC. Barrier cream applied before work may make it easier to clean the skin after exposure, but does not prevent absorption through the skin.

Eye protection:

Wear splash-proof eye goggles to prevent any possibility of eye contact.

Other protection:

Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of skin contact.

Hygiene measures:

Do not smoke in work area! Wash at the end of each work shift and before eating, smoking and using the toilet. Promptly remove any clothing that becomes contaminated. Use appropriate skin cream to prevent drying of skin. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Stability and reactivity

Stability:

Stable under normal temperature conditions.

Conditions to avoid:

Avoid contact with water. Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable). Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature.

Hazardous decomposition products:

Fire creates: Carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon dioxide (CO2).

Disposal considerations

General information:

Waste to be treated as controlled waste. Disposal to licensed waste disposal site in accordance with local Waste Disposal Authority.

Disposal methods:

Do not allow runoff to sewer, waterway or ground. Incinerate with adequate scrubbing and ash disposal.
