Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The viscosity is expected close to water. The analogue TFA is considered as a Newtonian liquid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
1.1 mPa · s (dynamic)
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Only a non-assignable value (0.34 mPa.s at 20°C) is available on the ester TFAE, but a fully reliable study was conducted on the corresponding acid TFA, which is expected to have the same magnitude of order.

The viscosity of the test substance TFA was measured according to recognised methods, and under GLP, using a rotary viscometer. At a shear rate varying from 20 to 100 s-1, the viscosity did not vary significantly: 0.9 to 9.0 mPa s at 20°C. At a constant shear rate of 2000 s-1, the viscosity was measured to be 1.8 mPa s at 20°C, and 1.6 mPa s at 40°C. Although these results are below the standard working range of the rotary viscometer (estimated accuracy in this low viscosity range was checked to be ca 14%), the test item can be considered as a low viscous liquid.

The study on the analogue confirms the low result expected from the internal data on the parent compound. The mean value at 20°C was retained for purpose of CSA.
