Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Substance is hydrolytically stable (QSAR, Hydrowin v2.0).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Sulfopropyl acrylate (SPA) rapidly dissociates in the aqueous environment into 3-(acryloyloxy)propane-1-sulfonic acid and potassium hydroxide. A QSAR calculation using Hydrowin v2.0 on the hydrolysis of SPA indicates half-lifes of 1.061 year at pH 8. Therefore, hydrolysis products would not be expected to be produced in significant amounts in the natural environment. Thus, hydrolysis is not expected to be a degradation route under environmental conditions (pH 7-8, 25°C) and no further testing is required.
