Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

5 -Chlorovaleryl chloride is expected to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form 5 -chlorovaleric acid (CAS 1119 -46 -6) and hydrogen chloride (CAS 7647-01-0). Due to this rapid hydrolysis, the assessment of most environmental fate parameters for the parent compound in aqueous/moist environments is considered to be of low relevance. 5 -Chlorovaleryl chloride is qualified as readily biodegradable whereas the concept of biodegradation does not apply to the inorganic degradation product. For the other environmental fate parameters estimates were made by means of EPISuite. For the inorganic hydrolysis product no EPISuite calculation could be performed as inorganic substances are outside the applicability domain of EPISuite.

All available relevant environmental fate data is tabulated below.
