Additional information

BASF (1965) reported about the skin irritation properties of dimethyl ether boron trifluoride. The test substance was applied undiluted under occlusive conditions to the shaved back of rabbits for 1 min, 5 min, 15 min, and 20 h. Observation period was 8 days. Dimethyl ether boron trifluoride was found to be highly corrosive after 15 min, and 20 h indicated by necrosis. Corrosive effects were not reversible within 8 days.

As the product corrodes the skin, it can be expected to have a similar effect on the eyes, also. This assumption was confirmed by an eye irritation test (BASF, 1965).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification proposal: according to EU: C; R34 - according to GHS: Skin Corr. 1B (H314).
