Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation: If experiencing any discomfort, immediately remove the exposed person from exposure. Obtain medical advice if discomfort does not disappear. Eye contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water or eyewash solution, occasionally opening eyelids, until no evidence of chemical remains. Remove contact lenses after a few minutes and flush again. See physician if irritation persists. Skin contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash with water and soap. See physician if irritation develops. Ingestion: Let the exposed person rinse mouth with water and let him/her drink several glasses of water or milk if available, but do not induce vomiting. If vomiting does occur, give fluids again. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Make the exposed person lie down and keep quiet. Get medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Dry chemical or carbon dioxide for small fires, water spray or foam for large fires. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Approach fire from upwind to avoid hazardous vapours and toxic decomposition products. Fight fire from protected location or maximum possible distance. Avoid heavy hose streams. Dike area to prevent water runoff. Firemen should wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Observe all protection and safety precautions. Depending on the magnitude of the spill, this may mean wearing eye protection, gloves and boots when cleaning up spills. Personal exposure by splashing must be avoided. It is recommended to have a predetermined plan for the handling of spills. Empty, closable containers for the collection of spills should be available. Stop the source of the spill immediately if safe to do so. Contain the spill to prevent any further contamination of surface, soil or water. Remove sources of ignition. Reduce and avoid formation of airborne dust as much as possible, if appropriate by moistening. Spills on the floor or other impervious surface should be swept up onto an absorptive material such as universal absorbent, Fuller’s earth, bentonite or other absorbent clays. Transfer to suitable containers. Rinse area with strong industrial detergent. Washings must be prevented from entering surface water drains. Large spills which soak into the ground should be dug up and transferred to suitable containers. Spills in water should be contained as much as possible by isolation of the contaminated water. The contaminated water must be collected and removed for treatment or disposal. Uncontrolled discharge into water courses must be alerted to the appropriate regulatory body. The used containers should be properly closed and labelled.

Handling and storage

In an industrial environment, it is recommended to avoid all personal contact with the product, if possible by using closed systems with remote system control. Otherwise adequate ventilation or local exhaust ventilation is required. The exhaust gases should be filtered or treated otherwise. Store away from heat and strong sunlight in closed, labelled containers. Like most organic powders, the substance can form explosive mixtures with air. Avoid dust formation and take precautionary measures against static discharge. Keep away from sources of ignition. The product is stable under normal conditions of warehouse storage.

Exposure controls / personal protection

To our knowledge no exposure limit values have been established for this product. When used in a closed system, personal protection equipment will not be required. The following is meant for other situations, when the use of a closed system is not possible, or when it is necessary to open the system. Consider the need to render equipment or piping systems nonhazardous before opening. Respiratory protection: Avoid inhalation of vapours. In the event of discharge of the material during manufacturing or handling which produces a heavy vapour or mist, workers should put on officially approved respiratory protection equipment with a universal filter type including particle filter. Protective gloves: Wear chemical resistant gloves, such as barrier laminate, butyl rubber or nitrile rubber. Generally, the use of protective gloves will give only partial protection against dermal exposure. Small tears in the gloves and cross-contamination can easily occur. It is recommended to shift the gloves frequently and to limit the work to be done manually. Eye protection: Wear safety glasses. Have eye baths immediately available when there is a potential for eye contact. Other protection: Wear appropriate chemical resistant clothing. Work/hygienic practices: Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Avoid breathing vapour or dust. Before removing gloves, wash them with water and soap. Wash thoroughly with water and soap after handling. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash before reuse. After work, take off all work clothes and shoes. Shower, using water and soap. Wear only clean clothes when leaving job. Do not wear contaminated clothing. Environmental protection: Avoid release to the environment.

Stability and reactivity

The product is stable under normal ambient conditions.

Disposal considerations

Waste material can be removed by removal to a licensed chemical destruction plant or by controlled incineration with flue gas scrubbing.
