Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

no valid repeated dose studyand no acute toxicity study for dermal and inhaltive toxicity are available. 2-tert-butyl-m-cresol is classified (self classification) as corrosive and the substance is irritating to the skin and higly irritating to the eye. A DNEL (inhalative or dermal) for long term or acute/short-term exposure for local and systemic effects is therefore not quantifiable.

2 -tert-butyl-p-cresol is classified as corrosive and shall be registrated according REACH Article 18 (transported isolated intermediate) and testing is not justified on scientific and animal welfare grounds.

However, a qualitative assessment for risk charakterisation can be done. Substances with the R-phrase R34 (causes burns) are allocated to the moderate hazard category, on the basis that exposure should be well controlled (see RIP Part E: Risk characterisation, page 25).

Risk Management Measures and Operational conditions:

a) General: - containment as appropriate; -minimise number of staff exposed; -segregation of the emitting process; -effective contaminant extraction; -good standard of general ventilation; -minimisation of manual phases; - avoidance of contact with contaminated tools and objects; - regular cleaning of equipment and working area; - management/ supervision in place to check that RMMs in place are being used correctly and OCs followed; - training for staff on good practice; - good standard of personel hygiene

b) PPE: - substance/task appropriate gloves; - skin coverage with appropriate barrier material based on potential for contact with the chemicals; - substance/task appropriate respirator; optional face shield; - eye protection; - chemical goggles

2-tert-butyl shall be registrated according REACH Article 18 (transported isolated intermediate). The general population is therefore not exposed to this material
