Calibration of Tensiometer

The calibration of the tensiometer with Milli-RO water at a temperature of 24.8°C gave a

mean surface tension value of 71.88 mN/m, with a coefficient of variation of 0.2%. The

literature value of the surface tension of water at 24.8°C is 71.93 mN/m. The correction

factor was therefore determined to be 1.001.

See Table 1.

Measurement of Surface Tension

Triplicate determinations of the surface tension of duplicate aliquots of the test item gave

mean surface tension values of 71.95 and 71.93 mN/m. These values were corrected using

the calibration factor to give surface tension values of 72.02 and 72.00 mN/m.

The overall mean corrected surface tension of HEMA-PC was therefore determined to be

72.01 mN/m.

See Table 2.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Surface tension was successfully determined for HEMA-PC

Surface Tension = 72.01 mN/m (Coefficient of Variation = 0.2 %)
Executive summary:

Surface tension was successfully determined for HEMA-PC according to OECD Guideline 115.

Surface Tension = 72.01 mN/m (Coefficient of Variation = 0.2 %)
