Description of key information

For skin irritation one GLP study was available (in vitro test). For eye irritation, one GLP study was available (in vitro test) and some old in vivo data. In order to support the result of the in vivo eye irritation test, QSAR was performed. The substance is not irritating for skin or eye.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Additional information

MOCA proved to be not irritating in the in vitro tests for skin and eye irritation, respectively. In an older in vivo study in rabbits with a mixture of MOCA and related anilines, the result was also negative. In order to support the result of the in vivo test, and thus avoid new animal experiments to cover this endpoint, DEREK calculations were performed for eye irritation. None of the related anilines, including MOCA, were found to be eye irritants.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the results of the skin and eye irritation studies, the substance does not need to be classified according to the Dangerous Substance Directive 67/548/EC andCLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
