Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
- Stock solution of test substance was added to the sterile medium to provide a concentration ratio
of 1.8 in 10 ml of 2 % proteose peptone.
- The solutions were then inoculated with 0.2 ml of the pre-cultured T. pyriformis and cultivated at
a temperature of 30 °C for 24 h without agitation.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Tetrahymena pyriformis
Details on inoculum:
- Tetrahymena pyriformis was preserved in a sterile medium (of 2 % proteose peptone at a temperature of 20 °C) which was renewed at 2-4 week intervals.
- Tetrahymena pyriformis was pre-cultured at a temperature of 30 °C for 24 h.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

A cell-multiplication-inhibition test on the acute toxicity of 4-chloroaniline to Tetrahymena pyriformis was performed for a test period of 24 hours. An EC50 value of 10 mg/l was reported (Yoshioka et al., 1985).
