Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Partition coefficient: >9 for all constituents of the substance (OECD 117)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
9

Additional information

A measured log Kow value of >9.4 was obtained for all constituents of the substance using HPLC method in accordance with OECD 117 and in compliance with GLP. The result is considered to be reliable. An overall limit log Kow value of 9 will be used for assessment purposes; this is because log Kow above 9 is not scientifically meaningful.

This is supported by a reliable evaluation using QSAR. For UVCB substances, it is useful to consider the properties of constituents of the substance, which can be very important in the chemical safety assessment. In the case of Plant sterols, the SRC KOWWIN method has been used to estimate the log Kow values of seven constituents of Plant sterols individually. These constituents together comprise 99% w/w of the registration substance (based on average composition). For all of these substances, log Kow values greater than or equal to 8.0 are estimated using this method. In this range, the chemcial safety assessment is not sensitive to the exact value of log Kow. This finding is therefore considered to be reliable supporting data.
