There are no reliable test reports on the skin sensitisation induced by silicates. Silicates have been evaluated as nonsentising by Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel, which was established by the industry trade association with the support of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Federation of America. Although funded by the Council, CIR and the review process are independent of the Council and the cosmetics industry.
Several silicates have been approved as food additives. Many silicates are also accepted as excipients in medicines.
No reliable reports on occupational sensitisations have been found.

No data are available on the sensitising potential of Si/FeSi silicate. Silicates have been in consumer use long and extensively as food additives, as excipients in medicines and as ingredients in cosmetics. For these kind of consumer used no sensitising potentials have been seen. There are no reports for sensitisation in occupational use.

There are no data indicating a need for silicates to be classified as sensitising, and therefore Si/FeSi silicate is not suggested to be classified for sensitisation.
