Description of key information

Fatty acids, C16-18, zinc salts is readily biodegradable. However, Fatty acids, C16-18, zinc salts consists of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Whereas abiotic degradation is not relevant for zinc cations, the atmospheric half-life of C16 -18 fatty acids is estimated with 5 to 7 hours (6.53 and 5.71 hours for hexadecanoic acid and octadecanoic acid, respectively). Due to the lack of respective functional groups, hydrolysis is not relevant for C16-18 fatty acids. In sum, Fatty acids, C16-18, zinc salts is not expected to be persistent in the environment.
