As stated in the OECD SIDS on potassium hydroxide (2002)(p7), significant emissions to the terrestrial environment are not expected during normal handling and use of potassium hydroxide. Small terrestrial emissions will be neutralized by the buffer capacity of the soil: if potassium hydroxide is emitted to the soil, sorption to soil particles will be negligible. For this reason the environmental assessment can be limited to the aquatic compartment.
