Description of key information

The 96 hour LC50 for acute toxicity to fish is 7.43 mg/L. TLM QSAR modelling was used to calculate LL50 value of isoprene towards fish. The calculated LL50 is 17.158 mg/L.

The lowest value was used for chemical safety assessment.

Huntingdon Life Sciences (2004) reports a 96-hour LC50 value of 7.43 mg/L for the freshwater fish Oncorhynchus mykiss in a standard OECD 203 test. This result was from a study using a daily static renewal with daily analytical confirmation of the exposure concentrations. The result is based on the geometric mean of measured exposure concentrations. This study was conducted under GLP to standard guidelines. It was listed as Klimisch 1 in the OECD SIDS for isoprene and was also used by the Olefins Panel of the American Chemistry Council in the Category Summary for C5 non-cyclics for the US High Production Volume Chemical Program.
