Description of key information
Appearance / physical state / colour:
The appearance of Tetraethylammonium chloride was observed as white colored powder compound.
Melting point/ Freezing point:
The mean melting temperature range of Tetraethylammonium chloride was determined to be 39.1-41.1°C at 965.8 hPa.
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of Tetraethylammonium chloride is greater than 300°C at 966.4 hPa.
Density:
The mean pour density and tapped density of Tetraethylammonium chloride (CAS No. 56-34-8) was determined to be 0.6072 g/cm³ and 0.6673 g/cm³ at 25.2°C and 965.2 hPa.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry):
The particle size distribution of test item Tetraethylammonium chloride (CAS No. 56-34-8 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron
Vapour pressure:
The vapour pressure of Tetraethylammonium chloride was estimated as 0.0004106 Pa at 25 °C.
Partition coefficient:
The octanol water partition coefficent of target chemical N,N,N-triethylethanaminium chloride (CAS no. 56-34-8) was determined to be -3.15. On the basis of log Pow value the test chemical N,N,N-triethylethanaminium was considered to be hydrophilic in nature which is also supported by the high water solubility of the this chemical.
Water solubility:
The water solubility of Tetraethylammonium chloride was determined as 1595540 mg/L at 25 °C.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Tetraethylammonium chloride (56-34-8) is used as a laboratory chemicals and Ion exchange agents ,etc. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The mean flash point of Tetraethylammonium chloride was determined to be 94°C at 964.9 hPa.
Autoflammability:
Tetraethylammonium chloride did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Tetraethylammonium chloride is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
Tetraethylammonium chloride does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Tetraethylammonium chloride is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Tetraethylammonium chloride was considered as non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

39.1-41.1°C at 965.8 hPa
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of Tetraethylammonium chloride (CAS No. 56-34-8) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test item at 39 deg c, but no string of bubbles were observed up to 300, inferring B.P. to be
greater than 300 deg C and boiling point was considered to be greater than 300°C at 966.4 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item Tetraethylammonium chloride (CAS No. 56-34-8) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Test methods: Pour density and tapped density of powders” recommended in The International Pharmacopoeia, Fourth Edition, 2014
using bulk density apparatus. The mean pour density and tapped density of test item was determined to be 0.6072 g/cm³ and 0.6673 g/cm³ at 25.2°C and 965.2 hPa.

Thus,the above data suggested the chemical Tetraethylammonium chloride was considered to be very soluble in water.
