Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The self-ignition temperature of Alcohols, C9-11-linear and branched is expected to be =250°C on the basis of the properties of its constituent alcohols.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
250 °C

Additional information

There is no reliable measured self-ignition temperature available for the submission substance. However, self-ignition has been assessed based on available data for commercial samples of analogous mono-constituent substances (nonan-1-ol, decan-1-ol and undecan-1-ol). Nonan-1-ol, decan-1-ol and undecan-1-ol have measured self-ignition temperature values of 280°C at 1013 hPa, 254°C at 1013 hPa and 253°C at 1013 hPa respectively in accordance with ASTM E659-78 (2005) test method. The results are considered to be reliable and are used as weight of evidence that the self-ignition temperature of the submission substance is expected to be =250°C at 1013 hPa.

Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:

As carbon number increases, auto-ignition temperature generally decreases. Molecular weight is higher and intermolecular forces in the substance are all higher.
