Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For Alcohols, C9-11-linear and branched it is estimated that the indicative limit of solubility would be ca. 44 mg/l at a loading rate of 1000 mg/l at 25°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
44 mg/L

25 °C

Additional information

An indicative water solubility of ca. 44 mg/L was determined for Alcohols, C9-11, branched and linear using a relevant estimation method.

Whilst water solubility for a multi-constituent or UVCB substance is not meaningful scientifically for the purpose of assessment of exposure or risk, exposure and risk are assessed on the basis of water solubility of the individual constituents. nonan-1-ol, decan-1-ol and undecan-1-ol have water solubility values of 69.54 mg/L at 20°C, 21.1 mg/l at 20°C and 5.7 mg/l at 20°C respectively.

Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:

As chain length increases, water solubility decreases, because the free energy required for a molecule to dissolve becomes less favourable for larger molecules.
