Description of key information
The most sensitive result of acute toxicity of MBT to fish was obtained in a flow-through toxicity test on rainbow trout with a 96-hour LC50 of 0.73 mg/l (Monsanto, 1981), which is also the lowest effect concentration of the acute fish toxicities of the described metabolites of MBT.

Additional information
SMBT is an organic salt of strong base NaOH and weak acid of MBT and it is solely marketed as aqueous solution. The presence of MBT determines the hazard profile of SMBT aqueous solution; and hence the read-across approach is used to support the risk assessment of SMBT. No valid data with SMBT as test substance are available for the acute fish toxicity.
