Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The stability of mmt is dependent on the presence of light. The substance is not stable either in water or air, in the presence of light; conversely, mmt does not hydrolyze well in the dark. The half-life of mmt in air varies based on methodology used. When measured in the air, first order kinetics show a half-life 8 to 18 seconds, while exposure in a quartz tube results in a half-life determination of 25 to 93 seconds. Nonetheless, it does not exceed 2 minutes.

An accurate assessment of the hydrolysis of mmt could not be performed since the substance did not degrade in absence of sunlight. The estimated half-life of mmt in the absence of light at 25°C is >1year.

The photolysis of mmt in water showed a half-life of 0.9 minutes with a disappearance quantum yield of 0.13 in midday-sunlight. The identified transformation products were cyclopentadiene, methylcyclopentadiene, carbon monoxide and a manganese carbonyl that readily oxidized to trimanganese tetroxide.
