Toxicity to microorganisms

Currently viewing:

Link to relevant study record(s)

activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant

Description of key information

NOEC (14 d) ≥ 1.5 mg/L (Toxicity control, OECD 301D)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1.5 mg/L

Additional information

According to the ECHA Guidance document R.7b (ECHA, 2016), no further test on the toxicity to microorganisms has to be conducted if the toxicity control in a ready biodegradability test shows no inhibitory effects on microorganisms. As the toxicity control in the Biodegradability test showed no inhibition of the microbial activity at a substance concentration of 1.5 mg/L, no further test is necessary to evaluate the respiration inhibition of activated sludge. The concentration used in the toxicity control (1.5 mg/L) can be used as NOEC value.
