Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Justification for type of information:
The phys-chem report ("Final Report - "RT0080P") on Quaternary ammonium compounds, di-C12-18-alkyldimethyl, nitrites includes information on melting point, boiling point, density, flashpoint, auto-ignition temperature, water solubility and partition coeffficient. In sections 7 & 8 of this phys-chem report the appearance of the test item is noted.
Qualifier:
no guideline required
GLP compliance:
no
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid
Key result
Form:
liquid: viscous
Colour:
Yellow to orange
Substance type:
organic
Conclusions:
Substance is a viscous yellow liquid / wax like solid.
Executive summary:

The commercial product is a solution of the "substance", Quaternary ammonium compounds, di-C12-18-alkyldimethyl, nitrites, CAS Number 71487-01-9, EC Number 275-532-1, in organic solvents, methanol and isopropanol (ca. 32%). Prior to any phys-chem testing having been undertaken, these solvents were removed by, firstly, leaving the sample under a stream of nitrogen to remove the majority of the solvent(s) and, secondly, evaporating the remaining residual solvent(s) under vacuum at 60 degress C to constant dried weight of the test item. After solvent removal the substance was identified to be a yellow viscous liquid / wax like solid.
