Not classified as a self heating substance, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method N.4 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition 2009 and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures.
Reference
A positive result is obtained if spontaneous ignition occurs or if the temperature of the sample exceeds the oven temperature by 60 °C during the 24 hour testing time. Otherwise, the result is considered negative.
Category 1 will be assigned if a positive result is obtained using a 25 mm sample cube at 140 °C.
Category 2 will be assigned if:
a) A positive result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C and a negative result is obtained in a test using a 25 mm sample cube at 140 °C and the substance is to be packed in packages with a volume of more than 3 m3.
b) A positive result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C and a negative result is obtained in a test using a 25 mm sample cube at 140 °C, a positive result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm sample cube at 120 °C and the substance is to be packed in packages with a volume of more than 450 liters.
c) A positive result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm sample cube at 140 °C and a negative result is obtained in a test using a 25 mm sample cube at 140 °C and a positive result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm sample cube at 100 °C.
The test item will not be classified as a self-heating substance if a negative result is obtained in a test using a 100 mm cube sample at 140 °C.
The sample showed no signs of self-ignition or significant self heating over the duration of the test.
