Skin irritation/corrosion:
A skin irritation/corrosion study was conducted according to OECD guideline 404 and under GLP (Henkel, TBD890922, 1989). The shaved skin of 3 Kleinrusse rabbits was exposed to the test substance for 4 hours under a semi-occlusive dressing. Erythema and edema were score according to the Draize Scoring System 1, 24, 48 and 72 hours and 21 days after removal of the test substance. Additionally, 7, 14 and 21 days after removal skin was assessed for reversibility of effects observed before. Severe redness (score 3-4) and edema (score 3-4) were observed up to the 72 hour reading time point. Scabs were also seen already 24 hours after removal of the test substance. Additionally, brownish staining of the application site was observed at the 72 h reading time point. Effects were not completely reversible until Day 21 and on Day 21 at the end of the observation period one animal still showed erythema (score 3) and the other 2 animals slight erythema (score 1). No edema was seen anymore but all animals still showed scabs and scar tissue was detected.
In conclusion, irreversible skin effects and scar tissue were seen at the end of the observation period after exposure with Aliquat 336 for 4 hours.
Eye irritation:
No studies are available assessing eye irritation potential of Quarternary ammonium compounds, tri-C8 -C10 -alkylmethyl, chlorides. Since the substance was found to be corrosive to skin, testing for eye irritation can be omitted (REACH Annex VII and VIII, column 2).

Justification for classification or non-classification
The substance to be registered needs to be classified as corrosive (Cat.1C, H314) according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 and (C, R34) according to DSD (67/548/EEC).
