Description of key information

Slags, tin-smelting is an inorganic UVCB-substance and is obtained as a by-product from the smelting process of tin-containing ores.
The density of slags is determined by the constituents in the processed ores. As the composition of ores and consequently slags varies in broad ranges the slags are considered to be UVCB substances. Consequently, it is impossible to define a density for slags. Determination of density would result in a value, but this value cannot be regarded as a representative one. The density of slags, tin-smelting is also affected by the production process of slags, tin-smelting; therefore other parameters, such as air inclusions, might also influence the density of the material.
Against this background experimental determination of the density of slags, tin smelting is considered to be not scientifically justified under REACH.
