Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the toxicity of the target substance Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, reaction products with fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd. and propylidynemethanol (CAS 162353-70-0) to aquatic algae are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the analogue substances C18 Fatty acid, dimers, mixed ester with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane (CAS 147256-33-5) and Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-78-8) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.

The toxicity of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, mixed esters with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane (CAS No. 147256-33-5) to freshwater algae was tested according to OECD guideline 201 using Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism (BMG Engineering Ltd., 2012). The test was set up as a limit test using a water accommodated fraction (WAF) with a loading rate of 100 mg/L as test concentration. No test substance monitoring was performed. Based on the algal growth rate a 72 h-EL50 was determined > 100 mg/L (nominal) was determined. The determined 72 h-NOELR was ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal).

The short-term toxicity of the source substance Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-78-8) to aquatic algae was tested in compliance with OECD guideline 201 ( Laboratoire d'Analyses de Fluides, 2012). The study was set up as a limit test. Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata were exposed to the substance for 72 hours. The test solution was prepared by using the water accommodated fraction (WAF) of the test substance (nominal loading rate 0.110 g/1000 g). Based on the growth rate of algae an EL50 > 110 mg/L (nominal) was determined.

Based on the results of the read across substances (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) toxic effects of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, reaction products with fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd. and propylidynemethanol to aquatic algae are not expected.
