Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the acute toxicity of the target substance Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, reaction products with fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd. and propylidynemethanol (CAS 162353-70-0) to fish are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the analogue substances C18 Fatty acid, dimers, mixed ester with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane (CAS 147256-33-5) and Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-78-8) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.

The toxicity of the source substance C18 Fatty acid, dimers, mixed ester with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was tested according to OECD guideline 203 and GLP ( Laboratoire d'Analyses de Fluides, 2012). The semi-static limit- test was conducted with a water accommodated fraction (WAF) of a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L. Toxic effects on the tested spedimen were not observed. Thus, the reported LL50(96h) value was >100 mg/L.

The acute toxicity of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., triesters with trimethylolpropane to fish was tested under static conditions according to OECD guideline 203 (GLP). The test was conducted as a limit test at a nominal loading rate of 0.102 g/L, WAF (Harlan Laboratories Ltd., 2012). Toxicity or symptoms of intoxication were not observed. At test termination after 96 hours of exposure a LL50 (96 h) > 102.0 mg/L was determined.

Based on the results for the read-across substances (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5), Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, reaction products with fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd. and propylidynemethanol is considered not acutely toxic to fish up to the limit of water solubility.
