Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
The test item was dispersed and stirred for 24 hours in test water in a concentration of 100 mg/I. The solid particles were separated by filtration
through a paper filter and the clear solution was used for the test.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
Test animal was the water f1ea species Daphnia magna. They were bred within the laboratory by parthenogenesis and the individuals used were
between 6 and 24 hours old.
Breeding conditions:
Light: 15 hours light, 9 hours dark
Feeding: at least 6 days per week with alga and yeast
Test water: aerated reconstituted water
Aeration: none
Temperature: 19.5 - 20.0°C

Study design

Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
48 h

Test conditions

Test temperature:
18.3 - 19.0°C
pH:
7.9 - 8.0
Dissolved oxygen:
8.8 - 8.9 mg/L
Nominal and measured concentrations:
nominal 100 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
Duration: 48 hours
Procedure: static test, the test medium remained unchanged throughout the duration of the test
Light: 15 hours light, 9 hours dark
Feeding: no feeding during the test period
Test water: aerated reconstituted water, c (Ca++) = 2.04 mmol/L, c (Mg++) = 0.50 mmol/L, CaC03 = 254 ppm
Oxygen concentration: at least 8.8 mg/L, the test vessels were not aerated

Results and discussion

Effect concentrations
Duration:
48 h
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
> 100 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Details on results:
In the present study the test item in a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L did not cause any immobilisation of Daphnia.
Results with reference substance (positive control):
In the acute toxicity test potassium chromate was tested for the determination of EC50 as a mean of assuring that the conditions are reliable.
EC50 (24 h) = 1.7 mg/I

Any other information on results incl. tables

The HPLC analysis of the water samples showed no peak for the test item. Therefore, the measured concentration of the test item at nominal 100 mg/l was smaller than 0.2 mg/L (limit of detection).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The EC50 (48 hours) Daphnia of the test item is greater than 100 mg/I (nominal).
