Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
propylene oxide
IUPAC Name:
propylene oxide
Constituent 2
Reference substance name:
Methyloxirane
EC Number:
200-879-2
EC Name:
Methyloxirane
Cas Number:
75-56-9
IUPAC Name:
2-methyloxirane
Details on test material:
Test material was racemate from both R(+) and S(-) propylene oxide. This endpoint is not measured / determined with enantio-selective sensors.
Therefore the S(-) value is identical to the racemate endpoint.

Results and discussion

Vapour pressure
Temp.:
20 °C
Vapour pressure:
> 58.4 - < 61.2 kPa

Any other information on results incl. tables

The vapour concentration could only be estimated at the flash point temperature since the vapour pressure was only reported to -24.17°C and the Antoine constants calculated by McDonald et al. (1959) were only valid to -20°C. Therefore, it was not possible to validate the lower explosive limit or flash point in this way.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Several reliable measured vapour pressures are reported giving values in the range of 55 - 70 kPa between 19 and 25°C. The true value of the vapour pressure is probably between 58.4 and 61.2 kPa at 20°C. The middle of this range, 59.8 kPa, shall be used for exposure assessment.
