Description of key information
Following a GLP study in accordance with EC test method A.10, lanthanum trinitrate is concluded to be not highly flammable (Colombies, 2012b). From day to day handling of the substance, lanthanum trinitrate is concluded not to have pyrophoric properties nor to be flammable in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification
Pyrophoricity.
In the daily use and handling of lanthanum trinitrate during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that lanthanum trinitrate
has pyrophoric properties.
Flammability in contact with water.
Under conditions where lanthanum trinitrate is in contact with water no ignition and/or liberation of flammable gases is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that lanthanum trinitrate is flammable in contact with water.
Flammability.
From a flammability test (EC A.10) lanthanum trinitrate is concluded to be not highly flammable (Colombies, 2012b). This results in an absence of classification both under DSD and CLP systems.
