Description of key information

L-leucine does not contain chemical groups that are associated with explosive properties as described in ECHA's Guidance document R7. As a consequence L-leucine can reasonably be assumed to not exert explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII the explosive properties of a substance (required in section 7.11) do not need to be tested if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.

When comparing the chemical structure of L-leucine with the chemical groups presented in table R.7.1-28 of section R.7.1.11.3 of ECHA's guidance on "Information requirements and chemical safety assessment" (R7a p. 128), it can be concluded that none of those fragments is present in the substance, and as a consequence there is no structural alert for explosive properties of L-leucine.
