Description of key information

The Koc values of the three glycol ester components of B-TTEGME were calculated using EPIWIN 4.0: Koc values were between 0.001 and 0.008 L/kg, based on the respective log Kow values of B-TEGME, B-TetraEGME and B-PentaEGME. The Koc values indicates that B-TTEGME would not adsorb to soils or sediments should these environmental compartments be exposed to it. The value of 0.008 was selected as key value, since it represents the worst case with respect to binding capabilities of B-TTEGME components. Furthermore it represents the Koc of the major component of B-TTEGME, i.e., B-TEGME.

Additional information

The QSAR tool EPIWIN 4.0 was applied to calculate a Koc values for the three borated glycol esters of B-TTEGME, i.e. B-TEGME (50%), B-TetraEGMA (40%) and B-PentaEGME (10%), based on their corresponding Log Kow values, as follows:

Components of B-TTEGME Log Kow  Koc (L/kg)
B-TEGME (CAS 30989-05-0)   -4.37 0.008
B-TetraEGME (CAS 57057 -98 -4)   -5.19  0.003
B-PentaEGME (CAS 75672 -72 -9)   -6.01  0.001

The Koc values of the three glycol ester components of B-TTEGME indicate they would not adsorb to soils or sediments.

It should be mentioned that, in accordance with EC 1907/2006, Annex VIII, point 9.3.1, column 2, assessment of the adsorption/desorption behavior of B-TTEGME is not required due to its ready biodegradability and its low octanol-water partition coefficient, indicating that it has a low potential to adsorb to soils/sediments. Hence environmental exposure assessment is not being done. Although determination of Kd/Koc is not required, Koc is needed for PNEC sediment and soil derivation and was hence calculated for that purpose.
