Description of key information

Short-term aquatic toxicity studies with 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol (AEPD) are available for all three trophic levels. All tests demonstrate low aquatic toxicity, with LC/EC50 values of 460 mg/L, 668 mg/L and 548 mg/L for fish, daphnia and algae, respectively.

In a long-term study investigating the reproduction of Daphnia magna, a 21-day NOEC of 3.99 mg/L was obtained. The algal test revealed a NOEC of 31.3 mg/L with pH adjustment. Long-term testing on fish is not proposed, since based on the short-term data and the relatively high NOEC value from the above mentioned studies, no long-term effects are to be expected. Additionally, the substance is rapidly biodegradable and has low bioaccumulation potential. For these reasons and due to animal welfare, further testing on fish would not be justified.
