Description of key information

In a GLP study conducted according to ASTM test method D97-87, the pour point of EC# 457-320-2 was determined to be 42oC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a GLP study conducted according to ASTM test method D97-87, the pour point of EC# 457-320-2 was determined. Samples of the test material were cooled from approximately 45oC in 3oC steps in a cloud and pour point apparatus and the flow characteristics observed at each step. Two replicate studies were conducted.

The lowest temperature at which movement was detected in a sample of test material held horizontally in the apparatus for five seconds (the pour point) was 42oC in the first study and 39oC in the second study. As measurements were made at 3oC intervals, it was considered that the mean value could not be quoted to any greater degree of accuracy, and hence the higher of the two results (42oC) is reported as the mean.
